Health Promotion through Tongan Leaders Development
The Faith Advisory Board (FAB) is thrilled to announce the launch of their curriculum that will kick off later this month! The goal is to bring together young leaders from the Tongan churches to build relationships with each other and help create solutions for a healthier future for our congregations.
Before we can address health, we need to understand who we are and where we come from. We have developed a series of sessions based on Tongan culture and history that touches base on health, the environment, family, physical activity, chronic disease, food, and so much more. Our first session will cover cultural identity and values. Aka, which translates into root, is the basic cause, source, or origin of something. Understanding our Tongan identity requires an exploration of the aka. We are defined by our values; those values shaped by the structures of our families and culture; and the culture molded by history as told by our stories. How strongly are we drawing strength from our roots? Stay tuned!!
