Third Store in HiFi Now Selling #FRESH Produce!
By Ailene Ignacio
On Saturday, November 22, 2014, APIOPA held it’s 3rd Grand Re-opening event for its newest corner store partner, Amigo’s Market. Located on the westside of Historic Filipinotown, Amigo’s Market is the most west primarily food retail store along Temple Boulevard in the area.
APIOPA began partnering with Amigo’s Market owners, the Kim family, in early June. After several casual visits, when a stronger, more trustworthy relationship had been formed, the Kim family opened up to the idea of a transformation to their store, so long as it happened in smaller, less risky steps.
Catering to the wishes of the owners, we decided to highlight and promote the items they were most comfortable selling: avocados, bananas, onions, and garlic. With a little more encouragement, the owners eventually agreed to a new refrigeration unit to help them carry items that needed refrigerating, including lettuce, cabbage, cilantro, and more.
The end result: more produce for an equally interested community. From the increase of healthy food signage to the selling of more healthy and fresh foods, especially quality produce, Amigo’s Market is well on its way to continue building on the healthy food movement in Historic Filipinotown!
You are more than welcome to visit Amigo’s Market:
